And a lot of the story beats and character interactions won't hit as well if you jump right into 2 without going through 1. And if nothing else, playing Gravity Rush 1 will acclimate you to the gravity mechanic a lot better than jumping straight into 2, since they start to really expand on it with the different gravity forms.
I think 1's story is more focused and I prefer the upgrade system, but 2 is one of those rare 'ambitious sequels' that actually delivers and the gameplay is just generally better.
